Looking for SneakPeek in the UK? What to do instead
SneakPeek made early gender testing famous, but UK customers need a different route. Here's the equivalent, and what to look for.
SneakPeek is probably the best-known name in early gender testing, largely thanks to American social media. If you have searched for it from the UK and struggled to work out how to actually order one, you are not imagining the difficulty — it is a US service, and it is not a straightforward option for UK customers.
What people are actually looking for
The appeal was never the brand. It was the promise: find out whether you are expecting a boy or a girl from a blood test, weeks before a scan could tell you. That test exists in the UK, and it is the same science.
The UK equivalent
A gender blood test — sometimes called an early gender test or a baby gender blood test — is available from 10 weeks of pregnancy at private clinics across the UK. The laboratory looks for Y-chromosome DNA in your blood: present means a boy, absent means a girl.
One important difference to watch for
SneakPeek's model was a home finger-prick kit. Several UK providers copy that model, and it is where most problems with these tests come from: insufficient blood, clotting on the collection card, and contamination from male DNA in the household producing an incorrect boy result.
A clinic appointment removes all three of those risks. A phlebotomist takes a proper venous sample straight into a sealed tube, and it goes to the laboratory the same day.
What to check before booking anywhere
- Is the blood draw included in the price, or is it extra?
- Is it a venous sample or a finger-prick kit?
- Which laboratory processes it, and is it UK-based and accredited?
- Will they test before 10 weeks? If yes, be cautious — that is too early to be reliable.
- How is the result delivered, and can they hold it back for a reveal?
